Support Walk for Warmth Feb. 25

This week’s bouquets go to:

From: Julie Moberg and Cathy Pearson of the Community Action Agency in Escanaba:

We have a big event Feb. 25 in Escanaba — perhaps our biggest event of the year.

Our Walk for Warmth raises money, helping residents who have fallen on hard times, heat their homes. This event would not be possible without the countless volunteers, including local youth groups and walk cosponsors, who raise funds and take part in our walk. If you haven’t decided to be a part of this positive movement, you still have time. Raise pledges and bring the money to next week’s walk (9 a.m. Feb. 25, Elks Lodge, 510 Ludington St.). You may also take part in this short, symbolic walk. As our saying goes, move your feet and provide some heat.

Our cosponsors can’t be thanked enough for their good, hard work. They are the Community Foundation of Delta County and its Youth Advisory Committee, WJMN-Local TV3 and Radio Results Network.

Since 1982 this event in Delta County has raised more than $610,000 to help people stay warm in winter. It’s important to note that each and every cent raised goes to direct services in the county it is raised.

Your readers should rest assured we put their support to excellent use. Many residents in our communities must go cold simply because they don’t have the resources they need to heat their homes. Funding from the CAA is a last-gasp effort to provide support after all other avenues have been exhausted.

Thank you once again allowing us, with hat in hand, to remind residents the need is great. Thanks again to all. The care and support demonstrated by county residents cannot be applauded enough.

We identify our bouquet recipients in one of two ways: from Daily Press news pages and from nominations sent in by our readers.

Mail us a postcard or letter identifying your nomination and putting into detail what they’ve done. Include your name, address, and phone number. Send nominations to Saturday Bouquets, The Daily Press, 600 Ludington Street, Escanaba, MI 49829.

They may also be sent to us by going to our Web site, www.dailypress.net, and clicking on the submit news button. Once there, click on “Bouquets” and follow the simple instructions.
