Wine event helps Rotary help others
This week’s bouquets go to:
From Roger Charbonneau and Cheryl Ohman, co-chairs of the 2016 Escanaba Rotary Wine Tasting at the Island Resort and Convention Center:
In the dead of winter, we thought your readers might like some news worth celebrating. All the bills are paid and all receipts have been recorded, and our 2016 Vino at the Casino raised a record amount — $22,000!
It must be said that this event, which has in truth become a celebration for our entire community, couldn’t happen without the hundreds of residents and businesses that appreciate Escanaba Rotary and all that we do. As just a tiny example, entities that received support from Escanaba Rotary — just over the past several months — include Gladstone Parks and Recreation for the planned waterfront bike trail ($2,500), Tri-County Safe Harbor ($2,000), Northern Lights YMCA ($1,000), Delta Schoolcraft ISD Learning Center ($1,000), Shop With a Cop ($500) and Walk for Warmth ($500). And that’s to name just a few.
This would not be possible if it wasn’t for our wine tasting. Thanks to all of our members, supporters and people that attended our 2016 wine tasting. Our club might be small, but it’s caring and effective beyond its means — much like the communities we serve.
Please mark Nov. 4 on your 2017 calendars and once again take part in the most fun and social event of the year.
From the All Saints Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul:
The All Saints Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul thanks all of the people in our very generous community who contributed to our pantry and made contributions toward our Christmas baskets. Your kindness to the less fortunate in our community and your support of our efforts to assist them is greatly appreciated.
