John Edward Lark

ESCANABA — John Edward Lark, 71, of Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Escanaba on Dec. 4, 1947, the son of Edward and Rita (Johnson) Lark.

John was a lifelong resident of Escanaba. He graduated from Holy Name High School in 1966. He received his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.

In 1968 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany where he was a part of the Nuclear Missile Program until his honorable discharge in 1970.

In 1992 he married Maureen Mahoney. Together they celebrated 26 years of marriage.

John was a top athlete and scholar in school, earning the Dennis McGinn Trophy. He was a member of the Escanaba Country Club and shot three hole in ones in his golfing career. Golf was his passion, he loved the game and played almost every day and was willing to coach his friends during a good game of golf. He was no stranger to mulligans or foot mashies. He enjoyed playing cribbage and once was dealt a 29 hand. He was also a member of Delta Men’s Pool League. John was a kind and very generous man to all who knew him, especially the last few years he worked at the civic center. He had a good connection with all the students. He will be greatly missed.

John’s last wishes to his lifelong friends Jerry and Lee, “slow your swing down.”

He is survived by his wife, Maureen; siblings, Gary (Gloria) of Escanaba, Tom (Terri) Lark of Gladstone, Judy (Curt) Harper Of Durango, Colo., and Marilyn (Edward) Macadaeg of Waterford, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Bridgette and Kathleen Benavides; brother in law, Kevin (Sandy) Mahoney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rita.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
