Eileen Marie Paler

ESCANABA — Eileen Marie Paler, 102, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully at Bishop Noa home in Escanaba, Mich., on Jan. 6, 2019. Eileen was born in Schaffer on Nov. 18, 1916 and was the daughter of Arthur and Mary Greenwood. After marrying Harry Paler, they had two sons, Stephen Charles and Richard Francis Paler, and raised their boys in Escanaba.

Eileen was as good of a person as they come. She was the best! She was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife. She had a remarkable appetite and loved sweets. She was an excellent baker yet was always a tiny lady. She always made sure any clothing given to her for a gift was ‘petite’ and checked the tag to make sure.

Eileen worked at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba in housekeeping until her retirement. She liked to dance and socialize with her friends and family. She was a devoted Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cubs fan and watched the Packers right to the end of this season. One television show that she did everything not to miss was “Wheel of Fortune.” She always worked her dinner schedule around the show, so she could “guess those puzzles.”

Eileen was a very devoted Catholic. When she was driving she didn’t miss a mass. Even after she was not able to drive, she still made almost every service thanks to friends providing transportation.

Eileen lived in her own home on Sheridan Road in Escanaba until only a little over two years ago. Managing to take care of yourself until you are 100 years old is nothing short of a miracle. Her neighbors Becky and Ray were special friends that helped her, and the Paler family appreciates the kindness Becky, Ray and their daughters provided, as all of Eileen’s immediate family lived out of the area.

After a brief stint in Powers, Eileen moved to Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba about two years ago. The Paler family cannot say enough about the kindness and love that they provided Eileen while there. Although there are many to thank, on her last day, Eileen was surrounded by love and prayers with some family members and a dedicated and compassionate staff. A sincere thank you to Craig and Sister Eden for their professionalism, grace and comfort. They helped until the last minute and were so genuine. Thanks to all at Bishop Noa!

Eileen will be greatly missed by her two sons, Stephen C Paler, Brooksville, Fla., Richard F (Donna) Paler, Egg Harbor Wis. and Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stephen J Paler, Lorain Ohio; Dawn (Michael) McCole, Green Bay, Wis.; Beth (John) Holewinski, De Pere, Wis.; Matthew ‘Joe’ (Dana) Paler, Green Bay, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Kelsey McCole, Chicago, Ill.; Megan McCole, Miami, Fla.; Samuel McCole, Green Bay, Wis.; Bethany McCole, Columbia, Mo.; Alec Paler, Green Bay, Wis.: Jenna Paler, Green Bay, Wis.; Caitlin Paler, Green Bay, Wis.

There will be a mass at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in Escanaba at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Following the service there will be an immediate family gathering afterward at a location to be determined. Eileen will be buried next to her husband Harry at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba.
