Joyce ‘Joy’ Joan Holland
ESCANABA — Joyce “Joy” Joan Holland, 87, of Escanaba, passed away Sunday morning at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.
Joy was born in Perkins on June 12, 1931, daughter of Walter and Vine (Girouix) Sharkey. She was raised in Escanaba and attended St. Joseph High School.
On June 24, 1950, Joyce married John Holland at St. Joseph’s Church in Escanaba. They were married 66 years and together raised their two sons.
Joy was very laid back in life and was often heard quoting to her boys, “don’t sweat the small stuff”, and “it’s all small stuff” and also “this too shall pass.” She was born of a different generation that learned to appreciate life and not rush through it.
Among survivors are her sons, Gary (Janice) Holland and Todd (Patti) Holland all of Escanaba. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Gary (Danna) Holland Jr., John Holland, Melina (Brian) Malmsten, Julia (Josh) Smith, Joe (Bobi) DeAngelo, Holly (Adam) Ryno and Matthew (Tammy) Holland; and fourteen great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Lois Robitaille-Hanson of Escanaba and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John and brother, Todd Sharkey.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery spring 2019. A message of condolence may be directed to the family by visiting crawfordfuneralhomes.net.
