Robert ‘Bob’ G. Hay

ESCANABA — Robert “Bob” G. Hay, 82, of Escanaba, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba.

Bob was born in Kalamazoo, Mich., on June 30, 1936, son of Howard and Mildred (Labadie) Hay. He was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School.

In 1957 Bob joined the Army, serving for two years before his honorable discharge in 1959. He was a sharpshooter and earned a Good Conduct Medal.

When Bob returned from the service he became a firefighter for the Escanaba Fire Department and then a police officer for Escanaba Public Safety. He also was a real estate agent and owned and operated Bob’s Used Cars in Escanaba before retiring in 1998.

He loved to restore old cars, go fishing, play checkers and listen to country music. Bob was an avid Packer fan. He will be greatly missed!

Among survivors are his children, Amy Hay of Escanaba and Mark (Becky) Hay of Alpena, Mich.; granddaughter, Emilee Grace Hay; sister, Sally (Donald) Rae; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Bill; and sisters, Eleanor, Vera and Mary.

The visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The veterans service will begin at 5 p.m.

Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
