George A. Chaillier Jr

ESCANABA — George A. Chaillier Jr., 85, of Escanaba, passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 4, 2018, at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. He was born on May 2, 1933, in Escanaba, the son of the late George and LaVina (Bouchard) Chaillier Sr. On Oct. 26, 1957 he married the former Lenore Gunville at Holy Family Parish in Flat Rock.

On May 15, 1953, he entered the U.S. Army serving his country in Korea in the 6th Infantry Division and finishing in Detroit on May 18, 1955.

He worked for Chicago & North Western Railroad, Harnischfeger Corp, was an iron worker for local union 8 and then built, owned and operated Rainbow Packing until his retirement.

George lived most of his life in Danforth, working around his own work schedule to help his father on the family farm and also working with area mink ranchers. Amongst his many hobbies, George really enjoyed the outdoors, especially taking hunting trips and spending time at uncle Eddie Carlson’s camp. One of the highlights during his later years was going on the U.P. Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

He is survived by his loving wife, three sisters, Roberta Mileski of California, Charlene Fatherree of Oklahoma, and Lynn Fudala of Escanaba; one brother, Thomas Chaillier of Escanaba; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Pat) Gunville; a sister-in-law, Charlotte (Frank) Novak, as well as many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John “Jake” Chaillier, and his stepmother, Rose Chaillier.

Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday Sept. 7, at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home (400 S. 10th St., Escanaba, MI 49829) with Delta County Veterans Council rites at 11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Friday at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock with Fr. Francis Dobrzenski officiating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the Fr. Matt Hall. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
