Marjorie A. ‘Marge’ Johnson
ESCANABA — Marjorie A. “Marge” Johnson, 92, of Escanaba, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 24, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 8, 1926, in Ishpeming, Mich., daughter of James H. and Josephine M. (Rubens) Fisher. Marjorie attended Ishpeming Schools and was a graduate of Escanaba High School, class of 1944. She attended Cloverland Commercial College in Escanaba.
Marjorie Ann Fisher married Laurence “Sleepy” Johnson on May 28, 1949, at St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2006.
Marjorie was employed as a secretary for the State of Michigan Highway Department and later by the Groos Drug Store until her retirement in 1986.
She was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church. Marge was a devoted Catholic who and was active with the Altar Society, led the Rosary at Adoration every Tuesday and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Marge was an avid bridge player, loved sitting on her porch enjoying the warm summer days, and looked forward to her family gathering in her kitchen after Sunday Mass.
Among survivors are four sons, Daniel of Alaska, Gary (Janet) of Gladstone, Larry (Mary) and Robert, all of Escanaba; four daughters, JoAnne Johnson, Marilyn (James) Henderson, Kathleen (Michael) Stannard and Roberta (Greg) Good, all of Escanaba; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Laurence “Sleepy”; brothers, John and Robert Fisher; and sisters, Hazel Klein and Helen Colombo.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Parish prayers and a time of remembrance will be at 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Eric Olson officiating.
A meal will follow in the church hall of St. Thomas Church.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Escanaba. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
