Over the years Fred wore many hats including husband, father, grandfather, volunteer, multiple positions at Mead/Westvaco — his employer of 41 years, musician, photographer, confidante, a shoulder to lean on, a friend to be counted on and giver of advice and time to anyone who needed him and someone who loved to laugh as often as possible. He will be truly and deeply missed. Fred had a special place in his heart for all his friends, to include Al, Darby, Jeannie and John.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Dorothy (Deloughary) Cavill; his brothers, William, Robert and Don Cavill; and his sister, Mary Jane Bink.
Surviving Fred is his wife and life (and laughing) partner of 28 years, Donna (Couillard) to whom he was married in Hawaii on Dec. 23, 2010; his children, Melissa Cavill of Marquette and Michael (Minda) Cavill of Davis, Calif.; grandchildren, Minda, Jacob, Daphne and Liam; great grandchildren, Cadence, Addilynn, Marli, and Novella and numerous other family members who cherished and loved him.
Fred spent much time with many great people who hold a special place in his heart including Katie Bower at the Bower family farm in Bark River. He loved playing guitar and had a lifelong passion for music. He belonged to many bands over the years and played frequently with his buddies John Roman, the Cal Hyslop band, his Tuesday group at the Retro and Friday AmVets bunch. He enjoyed camping, sitting in the backyard and enjoying the outdoors with Donna, golfing with special friends Dow, Dave and Mary, having lunch with the ladies at OSF and visiting Sherrie and the crew at the Stonehouse.
He was a member of Sons of AmVets Post 123, Rifle Team AmVets Post 123, OSF St. Francis Auxiliary and volunteer, and the National Rifle Association of America.
