Lewellyn F. ‘Wimp’ Mineau
ESCANABA — Lewellyn F. “Wimp” Mineau, 89, of 901 S. 12th St., Escanaba, passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2018, at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers following a brief illness.
Lew was born May 9, 1928, in Gladstone, the son of William and Exilda (Beaudry) Mineau. He was raised in Gladstone where he attended All Saints School and Gladstone High School. Following World War II, Lew served his country in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in Florida.
Lew was united in marriage to the former Marguerite J. Olson on July 22, 1967, at All Saints Church in Gladstone. He worked for the Harnischfeger Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1985 as a maintenance electrician. Lew was an active member of All Saints Church in Gladstone and a former member of the Gladstone Yacht Club.
Lew was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, sailing and snowmobiling.
He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Marguerite. Marguerite preceded Lew in death on Sept. 24, 2014.
In addition to his parents and wife, his siblings, Art, Leonard, George, Mildred, Wilford, Robert, Clifford, Bernice, Jeanette, Ralph, and Carlton preceded Lew in death.
Lew is survived by his sister-in-law, Helen Mae (Gene) Bengston of Crystal Lake, Ill. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.
Lew’s family will receive friends on Saturday, March 3, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites conducted by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 will follow at 11:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 p.m. at the All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Brian Gerber officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Lew will be laid to rest next to Marguerite at the Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba.
