Leona Jane Beeck
RAPID RIVER — Leona Jane Beeck, 90, of Rapid River, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 3, 2018, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, in Powers, surrounded by her loving family.
Leona was born on Sept. 28, 1927, in Saginaw, Mich., the daughter of James “Frank” and Vivian “Vina” (Morrison) Slosser. She was raised in Hale, Mich., and was a graduate of Hale High School. On July 28, 1950, Leona was united in marriage to Leland Walter Beeck, in Hale, and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Rapid River. Leona and Leland owned and operated “Grandma’s Place Restaurant” on Whitefish Hill in Rapid River for many years. Leland preceded Leona in death in 2006. Leona was a member of the Congregational Church in Rapid River and was proud to have been involved in many capacities of the church. Additionally, she enjoyed traveling, baking and especially gardening.
Survivors include: son, Michael (Glenda) Beeck; daughters, Donya (Dan) Pudus, Duquate “Teddy” (Bruce) Boelter, Dresden DuRoy, Drenda Beeck and Darbie Beeck.
Also surviving are Leona’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Vina; her husband, Leland; daughter, Debbie Blahnik; son-in-law, Larry Blahnik; brothers, Jim, Bill, Roy and Jack Slosser; sisters, Betty Hubbs and Donna Koepke.
Funeral services to honor the life of Leona Jane Beeck will take place on Friday at noon at the Congregational Church in Rapid River with Pastor William Rafuse officiating.
