John L. “Mike” McCauley
LANSING —
John L. “Mike” McCauley, 90 of Lansing died at McClaren Hospital, on Friday, Feb.16, 2018 after struggling a year with declining health.
Mike was the last surviving child of Alexius McCauley and Rose Suerth and was born in Gladstone. He married Beverly Goulding in 1958 and raised a family in Lansing although his heart remained in Gladstone.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly; his children, William Goulding, James (Linda) Goulding, Alexius McCauley, and Kathleen McCauley (Janet Mazziotti); his daughter-in-law Tammy Goulding; and his grandsons, Dennis (Karen) Goulding, Saylor Goulding, & Jesse Goulding.
He was preceded in death by his son Bob Goulding, grandson Corey Goulding, and 10 siblings including his beloved brother, Judge Patrick McCauley of Kalamazoo.
Mike was a devout Catholic who was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish and later Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He offered his services for many, many years to Resurrection Church and their St. Vincent DePaul Society.
He served this country in the Army during World War II. He was a Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service for 34 years. He was the Vice President for the National Association of Letter Carriers representing East Lansing.
He was a proud Irishman who enjoyed golf (when he could find his ball), loved Notre Dame, the Green Bay Packers, and anything Irish.
He always had time to start up a conversation with whoever would offer an ear.
He was a loyal man who would give the shirt off his back for a friend or person in need. He was devoted to his wife.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass was held at Church of the Resurrection,1527 E Michigan Ave, Lansing on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 11a.m. with Rev. Fr. Bill Lugger as celebrant.
A visitation at the church will precede the Mass from 10 To 11a.m. along with a rosary service from 10:30 until time of Mass.
Mike will be laid to rest on the bluff in Gladstone at Fernwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
