Mattie Elizabeth Strauss

HERMANSVILLE — Mattie Elizabeth Strauss, 95, of Hermansville, Mich., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at ManorCare of Kingsford, Mich. She was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Mountain Park, Okla., to the late W.B. “William” and Carrie (Parsons) Boman. She attended school there and graduated from Snyder, Okla., High School in 1939. Elizabeth worked as a telephone operator at Frederick, Okla., and on Aug. 19, 1944, she married Henry Strauss in Fredrick, Okla.. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2000. Elizabeth studied with Newspaper Institute of America in New York, N.Y., and later at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where she got her degree in ministry.

Elizabeth was a member of the Hermansville United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and she loved to read and write poetry, she even had her own greeting card line called “Springs in the Desert.” Elizabeth also enjoyed crafting, activities at her church and working on church missions.

Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters, Sue (Frank) Haluska and Janice (Earl) Mitchell; two sons, Bruce (Theresa) Strauss and Mark (Jolene) Strauss, all of Hermansville, Mich.; five grandchildren, Brian, Tom, Craig, Sarah and Jeff; and one great-grandchild, Raeann.

She was preceded in death by all of her siblings and a grandson, Ryan.

Visitation for Elizabeth will be on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Anderson-Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson, Mich., beginning at 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon.

Rev. Christine Bergquist will be presiding. Burial will be in the spring in the Stephenson Township Cemetery.
