Kenneth D. Waller

ESCANABA — Kenneth D. Waller, 69, of Escanaba, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Ken was born on April 8, 1948, in Ponca City, Okla., to Forrest and Katherine (Wolz) Waller. He was raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Ponca City High School.

In 1967, he served his country by joining the Air Force. He was stationed at K.I. Sawyer, Kadena, and Minot Air Force Bases where he serviced aircrafts as a fuel specialist.

On May 3, 1969, Ken married Yvonne Valiquette in Schaffer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Ken went to work for Ford, Chevy, and the Delta County Road Commission. He served as his Teamsters union representative until his retirement from the road commission in January of 2011. Ken was a master mechanic who could fix anything, “southern style.” He was a woodsman, woodworker and loved to tinker with metals.

He coached wrestling and basketball, loved to go camping and travel the world. He was a connoisseur of coffee, whether in the states or abroad, Ken always enjoyed good conversation over a cup of Jo.

In addition to his wife, Yvonne, he is survived by his children, Clinton (Doreen) Waller, Brian (Michelle) Waller, and Carrie (Thomas) Curtice; grandchildren, Jessica Stevens, Saliena Morse, Tara Waller, Joseph Waller, Wyatt Curtice, Justin Waller, Yvonne Curtice, Owen Waller, Ethan Waller, Xander Curtice and four great-grandchildren, Desiree, Noah, Jackson, Lily; siblings, Raymond, Don, Kay, Fred and Keith; and many nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Waller.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, from 12 to 1 p.m. EST at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River. A Memorial Mass will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating.
