Donald L. Anderson

ESCANABA — Donald L. Anderson, 92, of Escanaba, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at his home of natural causes.

Don was born in Wells, Mich.,, on October 1, 1925, son of Louis and Elsie (Kemp) Anderson. He was a lifelong resident of the area.

He joined the Army in July of 1944 and proudly served his country in World War II.

On May 5, 1962, Don married Shirley Knudsen at Christ the King Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1976.

Don was a carpenter and a proud member of over 50 years to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and the Upper Peninsula Local 1510.

He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, American Legion Post and the VFW Post 2998.

In his spare time, he loved to go fishing. He took pride in maintaining his yearly garden. He had a knack for telling jokes and enjoyed sharing his life stories with family and friends. He especially loved his two girls, his grandsons and his grand dogs.

Don is survived by his daughters, Mary Anderson of Escanaba, and Tina (Mark) Minzlaff of Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Michael Anderson, Jared, Steven and Craig Minzlaff and his grand dogs; sister-in-law, Gladys Anderson; brother-in-law, Peno Rae; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; siblings, Lawrence, Carl, Bobby, Richard, Chet and Emily Laukanen, Betty DesJardin, Mildred Stemac and infant brother, August.

Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 28, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1280 N. 18th St., Escanaba, from 3 to 5 p.m. Military services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. with Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. A meal will follow in the fellowship hall.

Burial will be on Monday, Jan., 29, at Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
