Louise Ann Blanchette

FOSTER CITY — Louise Ann Blanchette, 86, passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Foster City surrounded by her family. Louise lived in Norway from 1993 until moving to Foster City in 2017.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1931, in Escanaba, daughter of Delore B. and Sadie L. (Christian) LeBlanc. Louise graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949 and then continued her education at St. Scholastica Department of Nursing in Duluth, Minn., graduating in 1952.

On Nov. 26, 1955, Louise married John D. Blanchette at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. He preceded her in death in 2000.

Over the years, Louise worked as a registered nurse for St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, the VA hospital in Iron Mountain and the Delta Menominee Health Department. She also was the assistant director of nursing in the Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain and the school nurse at Hannahville school. Louise and her husband, John, owned and operated T.J.’s Place in Bark River from 1984 until 1993.

Louise’s Catholic faith was important to her. She had been a member of St. Thomas Church in Escanaba, St. Mary’s Church in Norway and currently was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River.

She was a member of the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association for two years, serving as secretary.

Among her survivors include children, Linda (Steve) Carlson of Foster City, John (Joy) Blanchette of Sun City, Ariz., Cindy (Steve) Hult of Ishpeming, and Thomas (Patricia) Blanchette of Norway; and five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, John, she was preceded in death by siblings, Leonard Decent, Robert Decent, Al LaBlanc, Blanch Mason and Theresa Miller.

Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. (Eastern Time) and on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating.

Inurnment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to OSF Home Health and Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
