Robert William Johnson

ESCANABA — Robert William Johnson, 82, passed away of natural causes early Monday morning, Nov. 20, 2017 at his home in Escanaba.

Robert was born on May 28, 1935, son of Robert and Eleanor (Obeshen) Johnson in Wauwatosa, Wis. He graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1953.

He served two years active duty in the United States Army. After returning from Germany, Robert served six more years in the U.S. Army Reserve.

On March 7, 1977, he married Bernice and continued his career as a mailman in Milwaukee.

In addition to his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Robert took great pride in his retirement from the U.S. Postal service after working there for 35 years. Throughout early retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife. Most recently he enjoyed channel surfing, watching news and sports.

Among survivors are his children, Robert A. (Mary) Johnson of Escanaba, Garry (Kathy) Johnson and Steven Johnson all of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchildren, Robert T. (Chelsea) Johnson, Evan (Kaitlyn) Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Michael Johnson, Bryton (Alexa) Johnson, Brylea Johnson; great-grandson, Robert L. Johnson; step children, step grandchildren and special friend to the family, Patty Rehse.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eleanore; wife, Bernice; and son, Douglas.

A celebration of life will take place on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017 at the home of Robert W. Johnson, 705 South 10th Street, Escanaba, starting at 12 p.m.
