Elvira J. Skorupski
CORNELL, Mich. — Elvira J. Skorupski, 86, of 4714 21st Road, Cornell, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2017, at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.
Elvira was born Oct. 5, 1921, to Henry and Marie (Trombley) LaCrosse. She was raised in Delta County and attended Escanaba Public Schools. Elvira was united in marriage to Joseph Skorupski on Jan. 4, 1949, in Escanaba. They made their home in Cornell where they raised their five children.
Elvira worked for many years as the manager of the lunch department at Woolworth. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and her hobbies included four-wheeling. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with them. She will be sadly missed.
Survivors include: children, Susan Bjorkquist of Wetmore, Pat (Myra) Skorupski of Wetmore, Gary Skorupski of Escanaba, Joe (Gayle) Skorupski III of Cornell; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Skorupski of Escanaba; brother, Dennis (Gloria) LaCrosse of Brampton; sisters-in-law, Barbara LaCrosse of Escanaba, Mary Rzonca of Chicago, Ill., and Karen LaCrosse of Phoenix, Ariz. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Joseph on Aug. 8, 2001; sons, Paul and Mike; son-in-law, Tom Bjorkquist; great-grandson, Jeff Skorupski; brothers, Richard and Duane; and sisters, Sharon, Rose and March preceded Elvira in death.
Elvira’s family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Elvira Skorupski will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Fr. John Longbucco of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Joseph at the Escanaba Township Cemetery.
