Barbara J. Benson
ESCANABA — Barbara J. Benson, 70, of Escanaba, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at U.P. Health Systems in Marquette. She had been a kidney transplant patient for 22 years thanks to her brother John Benson.
Barbara was born in Escanaba, Mich., on Dec. 28, 1946, daughter of Floyd and Carmen (Duncan) Benson. She was raised in Escanaba and attended Escanaba High School. She also attended writing classes at George Stone Vo-Tech in Pensacola, Fla.
She lived in Pensacola for 25 years before moving back to Escanaba, where she worked at Sav-Mor IGA and Kmart for many years until her retirement.
Barbara was an avid reader and had become a published author. She loved to write historical fiction and poems. She was also very artistic and enjoyed doing crochet and other crafts in her spare time. She came from a very musical family. When her brothers would play country music together, her beautiful face would light up and that’s when she was the happiest. She had an amazing singing voice and she inspired her daughters to love music too. Barbara was known to be sassy and she was sassy till the end.
She was also generous and would give to anyone who had a need, even though she really didn’t have a lot. She taught her daughters to help others and that giving is always more rewarding than receiving.
Among survivors are her daughters, Linda Clouse (John) of Hortonville, Wis.; Teena (Chris) Shady of Kodak, Tenn.; and Angel, her lil Chihuahua; grandchildren, Brandi Norman of Appleton Wis., Elizabeth Norman, Christina Norman, and James Norman of Pensacola, Fla.; Tiffany and Rachel; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Roger (Wanda) Benson of Colorado, Floyd (Barbara) Benson of Escanaba, Harold (Robin) Benson, Carol Moras and Kathy (Richard) Couillard, all of Racine, Wis.; also numerous nieces and nephews.
