ESCANABA — Patrick “Pat” J. McDonough, Sr. 82, of Escanaba, passed away early Tuesday morning June 20, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

Pat was born on Feb. 19, 1935, in Gladstone, son of John and Mildred (Dumas) McDonough. He was raised in Escanaba, graduating from Escanaba High School class of 1954.

On Dec. 29, 1956, he married Nancy Weberg in Escanaba. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 2015.

Pat served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp from 1954 until his Honorable Discharge in 1962. He then became a Sargent with the Army National Guard until 1964.

After his time in the service he worked many jobs. In Escanaba he worked as a brakeman for Chicago Northwestern Railroad and he also worked as a printer for the Chicago Tribune. Locally he was the owner of the Buck Inn Restaurant in Wells for many years until his retirement. He also worked at Payne & Dolan, Hilltop RV Superstore and the Best Western Hotel.

Pat loved to hunt, fish, camp, and travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. in the winter months.

He was a member of the American Legion and Amvets.

Pat is survived by his children: Patrick McDonough Jr, Tom McDonough, Jeff McDonough, Marcia (Bob) Henkes, Kathy (Manfred) Schmidt, Kris (Hans) Schmidt, Jason (Bobbi Jo) McDonough; grandchildren, Michele McDonough, Shannon (Scott) Maki, Tom McDonough, Ashley McDonough, Jack McDonough, Nicole (Matt) Fromdahl, Lindsey Henkes, Mike (Shannon) McDonough, Kristina Schmidt, Karl Schmidt, Katie Schmidt, Alin Schmidt, Anna Schmidt, Alexandra Schmidt, Chelsea McDonough, Dylan McDonough, Grace McDonough; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, John McDonough, Mary (Gary) Finman, Jim (Bonnie) McDonough; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, Nancy; Patrick was preceded in death by his brother, Mike McDonough; and daughter-in-law, Jackie McDonough.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military rites will be at 12:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A meal will be served in the dining area following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans at 425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
