Anne B. Merle

ENSIGN — Anne B. Merle, 91, of Ensign, passed away Thursday June 22, 2017, at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.

Anne was born April 7, 1926, in Ensign, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Mauher) Merle and she was first generation American. She was raised in Ensign and attended the Ensign and Rapid River Schools.

Following school, Anne continued to work on the family farm. She later moved to Milwaukee and gained employment at Briggs and Stratton where she worked until her retirement. Anne returned to Ensign in 1992 where she has remained since. Anne enjoyed various outdoor activities, including working in the garden.

Survivors include: nieces, Molly Cassidy of Gladstone, and Dorothy Hardwick of Rapid River; nephew, Ivan Stemack of Ensign; and many great- and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents; her brother, Walter Merle; and sisters, Julia Stemac, Frances Merle and Mary Merle, and nephew Joe Stemack preceded Anne in death.

Mass of Christian Burial for Anne will be held on Friday, June 30, at 1 p.m. at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River with Rev. Fr. Joseph V. Augustine officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Charles Parish Hall. Burial will follow at 3:15 p.m. at the Rapid River Cemetery in Rapid River.
