Harold J. Moravek
CORNELL — Harold J. Moravek, 90, of 2895 Triple Creek Road, Cornell, passed away at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette. He was born on March 7, 1926, in Chicago, the son of Harold and Anna Moravek. Harold grew up and attended school in Chicago. On June 26, 1944, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II until he was honorably discharged on May 25, 1946, in Great Lakes, Ill. Harold worked in Chicago most of his life as a mechanical engineer until his retirement. In the 1980s he moved to Cornell to enjoy the peace and quiet that the Upper Peninsula had to offer. Harold enjoyed the outdoors and was very proud to be a veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Escanaba River Post.
Harold J. Moravek is survived by daughter, Barbara Smith of Chicago; son, James Moravek of Arizona; sister, Anna Marie Laffee; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Moravek.
Veteran’s services will be conducted by the American Legion Escanaba River Post at 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Harold’s home, 2895 Triple Creek Road, Cornell.
