Norman ‘Sonny’ H. LaPalme

ARNOLD — Norman “Sonny” H. LaPalme, 73, of Arnold, Mich., passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 29, 1943, in Escanaba, the son of Norman J. and Bernice (Iverson) LaPalme. Sonny grew up in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1961. Following graduation, he began his career at Harnischfeger Corporation. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. Sonny returned to Escanaba and continued to work at Harnischfeger Corporation for 23 years until it closed.

He married the former Patricia St. Vincent on July 29, 1967, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells. The couple shared 49 years of marriage together and raised two children. Sonny also worked at Robinson’s until he and his wife, Pat, purchased the Arnold Store in 1995 and have continued to own and operate LaPalme Country Corner in Arnold. Sonny enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His grandchildren meant the world to him and appreciated time spent with them creating many memories. He loved traveling with his wife, Pat, taking many cruises to various places around the world. Sonny was a member of St. Joseph Mission in Northland.

Norman “Sonny” H. LaPalme is survived by wife, Patricia of Arnold; son, Scott (Michelle) LaPalme of Escanaba; daughter, Kerri (Tim) Coppock of Bark River; grandchildren, Chelsea LaPalme, Sara Carlson, Donnie Carlson, Nick Carlson, Dawson LaPalme, Luke Coppock; mother-in-law, Helen St. Vincent of Wells; brothers, Dale (Bonita) LaPalme of Hermansville, and Randy (Karen) LaPalme of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by father-in-law, Raymond St. Vincent; brother-in-law, Ronnie Judd; grandson, Owen Michael Coppock; and nephew, Zachary St. Vincent.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military honors by the Delta County Veterans Council and the U.S. Army Honor Guard will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of Norman “Sonny” H. LaPalme will follow at 12 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne Parish with Father Fran DeGroot officiating. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
