Richard “Curly” J. Moras

GLADSTONE — Richard “Curly” J. Moras, age 86, of 7051 P. Road in Gladstone (Bayview), passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1930 in Escanaba, the son of Henry and Regina (Cheverette) Moras. Richard grew up and attended school in Escanaba. In 1948, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1952. Richard married the former Gayle Buckland on Oct. 3, 1953 and together the couple shared 63 years of marriage. He worked at Harnischfeger Corporation in the tool and die department and in the cab assembly plant for 35 years until his retirement. Richard also worked for Bosk Painting and later with Dan Sampson at many auctions. In his later years, he owned and operated Chicken Coop Antiques near his home in Bayview. Richard enjoyed creating memorable pieces of art for his family through his talented woodcarvings, and took great pride in tending to his garden each summer. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.

Richard “Curly” J. Moras is survived by wife, Gayle of Gladstone; daughter, Patti Moras of Gladstone; son, Ricki (Susan) Moras of Green Bay, Wis.; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Moras of Oshkosh, Wis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harold “Louie” Moras.

Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Anderson Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Moras family and online condolences can be sent at ­
