Alice Martha Solis
GLADSTONE — Alice Martha Solis, 83, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.
She was born in Saint Nicholas on June 1, 1933, the daughter of Adolph and Sibilla (LaFaut) Lippens and attended school in Rock.
On April 24, 1954 Alice married Edward Solis. They were married 53 years.
She loved dancing, going to the casino, cutting the grass, going to camp, bowling, hunting, fishing, playing dice games with her sisters, latch hooking, walking, riding her side by side and especially spending time with her family. Alice also enjoyed being at her winter home in Palm Desert.
Alice was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Holy Family Church, Holy Family Women’s Altar Society, Bay De Noc Sportsman’s Club, Tuesday Women’s Bowling League, horseshoe league in Soo Hill and participated in the Escanaba Farmer’s Market. She was also a volunteer for Camp 7 free fishing weekend.
She is survived by her children, Don Solis of Perronville, Sue (Rudy) Wencl of Escanaba, Gary Solis of Gladstone and Maryann (Randy) Jacques of Gladstone; 12 grandchildren, John (Vicki) Solis, Jeanne Solis, Jamie (R.J.) Beaver, Joseph (Tracy) Solis, Andy (Chelsea Clairmont) Jacques, Mick (Dani) Jacques, Joshua (Sadie Soring) Solis, Jason (Tera) Solis, Sarah Solis, Ken Quaghebeur, Michelle (Wayne Manninen) Quaghebeur, and Nick (Stephanie Gryzb) Quaghebeur; 21 great-grandchildren, Trevor, Jaylin, Emmett, Jax, Kale, Hunter, Austin, Kyle, Susan and Thomas Solis, Levi Jacques, Aylah Seder, Leela Dahn, Brianna Roberts, Katelyn, Janaya and Jayla Beaver, Emma and Colton Quaghebeur, Kara (Allen Beauvis) Kurth, and Hannah (Austin Jensen) DeCamp; one great-great-grandchild, Callie Jensen; special friend, Sonny Richer of Gladstone; sisters, Mary Genisse of Menominee, Irene Barron, Rita (Russell) Taylor, Barb (Gary) Sheedlo all of Gladstone, Germain (Dwayne) Taylor of Flat Rock, and Bernice (Dick) Caron of Escanaba; brothers, Rene Lippens and Adolph (Phyliss) Lippens both of Gladstone, Joe (Joyce) Lippens of Schaffer; John (Laurie) Lippens and Albert (Judy) Lippens of Escanaba; brothers-in-law, Ben (Laura) Solis of Black River Falls, Wis., Francis (Ilene) Solis of Gladstone, Lenard (Marilyn) Solis of Bensenville, Ill., Richard (Judy) Solis of Wheeling, Ill. and Gordon Wilson of St. Charles, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Solis of Lafayette, La., Helen Jardis of Northlake, Ill., Marie (Bill) Wolkenhaeur of Idaho and Muriel Lippens of Escanaba; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents, Adolph and Sibilla Lippens; her in laws, John and Clara Solis; brothers, Phil and Ben Lippens; brothers-in-law, John and Walter Solis, John Genissee, Bill Jardis, Dan Barron and Bob Karas; and sisters-in-law, Judy, Mary and Lorraine Lippens, Clara Wilson, Bernice Karas and Rosemary Solis.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Parish prayers will conclude the visitation at 6 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, March 21 at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Longbucco officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.
Burial will take place in the spring at the Escanaba Township Cemetery.
