William A. Howe

MANISTIQUE — William A. Howe, 70, of 307 North Second Street, Manistique, died unexpectedly on Feb. 20, 2017 at his home in Manistique.

He was born Aug. 22, 1946, in Escanaba the son of William R. and Lily I. (Pearson) Howe and attended Manistique area schools. He was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1964.

He continued his education at Michigan Technological University in Houghton where he received his degree in accounting in 1968.

Bill worked in the banking industry in Detroit following graduation and later moved to Escanaba where he worked for the Schneider, Larche, Haapala, & Co. accounting firm. He then moved to Manistique and managed the Schneider, Larche & Haapala Manistique office, eventually purchasing it and establishing his own business, Bill Howe, C.P.A. in Manistique.

He was a member of the Indian Lake Golf and Country Club and the Manistique Elks Lodge. He enjoyed reading, golfing, and stamp collecting.

Bill is survived by his parents, William and Lily Howe of Escanaba; brother, David (Patti) Howe of Ft. Myers, Fla.; nephew, Tom (Kim) Howe of Poplar Grove, Ill.; and his niece, Liza (Mike) Safford of Caldwell, Idaho.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Eleanor Russey officiating.
