Edward Allan Closs
ESCANABA — Edward Allan Closs, 61, of Escanaba, passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017.
Edward was born Jan. 19, 1956, in Escanaba, the son of Clarence and Marilyn (Kurth) Closs. He was a United States Navy veteran having served for over 16 years. His duty stations included the USS Bryce Canyon in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the USS King in Norfolk, Va., and numerous other locations. He received numerous awards and citations. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. He was united in marriage to Susan Spaulding on Jan. 6, 2016, in Escanaba. Edward enjoyed going to camp, hunting, fishing and playing his guitar. He especially enjoyed hunting with the “Wheelin Sportsmen.” Edward loved his mother dearly and taking his dog,” Little Girl” for walks.
Edward is survived by his wife, Susan; his son, Edward (Sara) Closs Jr. of Gladstone; his mother, Marilyn Closs of Escanaba; his daughters, Becky (fiance Kyle Marcoe) Closs of Mt. Pleasant, Wis., and Sandy (Cory) Allen of Escanaba; two stepdaughters, Megan (fiance Stacy London) Spaulding of Escanaba and Catie (Jeremy) Oakes of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Avery, Evan, Derek and Sonny Closs, Chloe and Hunter Allen, Mitchel and Anna Marcoe and Aiden Oakes; his brother, David (Bonnie) Closs of Escanaba and Kathy (Pat) Feldhusen of Escanaba and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Closs.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military honors will be presented at 3:45 p.m. by the Delta County Veterans Council and the United States Navy. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Erik Heskin officiating.
