GREEN BAY, Wis. — Betty K. Van Horn, 77, of Green Bay, Wis., entered her heavenly reward Saturday evening, Feb. 18, 2017, at a Green Bay nursing home with her family at her side. Born Jan. 7, 1940, in Escanaba, she is the daughter of the late Otto and Hilda (Plutchak) Kurth.

Betty is a graduate of Escanaba High School, Class of ’58. She cherished her time in the garden and appreciated the beauty of flowers. Betty was an avid treasure hunter and antique collector. She enjoyed listening to Elvis, Randy Travis and WEMI Christian Radio. Betty loved her country, the American Flag and all things patriotic. She was a fashion minded individual, taking pride in her appearance with an affinity for dresses, jewelry and looking like a lady. Betty took pleasure in sending greeting cards, taking photos and decorating for the holidays. She maintained her family’s home in spotless condition and provided daily for her children ensuring that all of their needs were met with care and love. Betty was a distinguished cook and baker who excelled in all things culinary.

She will be fondly remembered for her witty sense of humor and love of family.

Betty was a deeply religious child of God who always lived for her Savior. Her children were and are truly blessed to call her “Mom.” These words are written not in her absence but rather in her presence because she is here with us in spirit, in our minds and especially in our hearts.

Betty was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her children, James, Mark, Tony, Michelle, Rachel, John, Kristin, Caron and Scott; seven grandchildren, Seth, Haley, Christian, Brandon, Katie, Jaelyn, and Ian; one great-granddaughter, Olivia; and one sister, Marilyn Closs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Jordan; and eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation gathering in the Chapel of Allouez Cemetery and Mausoleum, 2121 ­Riverside Dr. Green Bay, ­Saturday, Feb. 25, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Curtis DeCoste, pastor at Christ of the Bay Lutheran Church officiating. Inurnment to ­follow the ­service. Malcore (West) Funeral Home is serving the family.
