Nicholas J. ‘Nick’ Broeders

GLADSTONE, Mich. — Nicholas J. “Nick” Broeders, 78, of Gladstone, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, Jan. 16, 2017, at home of an apparent heart attack.

Nick was born July 12, 1938, in Iron Mountain, Mich., the son of Gerard and Gertrude (Tauscher) Broeders. He was raised in Foster City until his family moved to Gladstone. Nick had worked as a woodsman and also on the iron ore boats during his life. His hobbies included gardening, camping, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include: companion of 35 years, Carol Williams; sons, Nicholas (Deby Meyers) Broeders of Cornell, Michael (Melinda Kallio) Broeders of Brampton, Andrew (Amy) Broeders of Brampton, Rick Broeders of New York, and Thomas Broeders of Ishpeming; daughter, Candice (Scott) Green of Farmington Hills, Mich.; brothers, Ernie Broeders of Bark River, Ted (Nancy) Broeders of Escanaba, Milton (Virginia) Broeders of Rock, Don Broeders of Perkins, and John (Dawn) Broeders of Rapid River; sisters, Pearl Elberson of Pennsylvania and Alida York of Bark River; sisters-in-law, Betty and Ruth Broeders. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to his parents, his brothers, Gerard, Leroy and Leo, and sisters, Johanna Lucas and Margaret Anderson, preceded Nick in death.

Nick’s family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Nicholas J.
