Raymond Clinton Roberts

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Raymond Clinton Roberts of Glendale, Ariz., peacefully passed away on Nov. 30, 2016. Ray was born Jan. 13, 1929 in Escanaba to the late Agnes (Peterson) and Raymond G. Roberts. As a young man, “Monk” played football and basketball at St. Joseph High School, Escanaba. Ray served as a merchant seaman on the Great Lakes prior to his enlistment in the Army. He was a member of the New Berlin Lions Club and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 60 years.

His life will be remembered through endless stories of youthful shenanigans, hunting camps, fish tales, smelt runs, ice shanties, Grandma Lilly’s, family gatherings including Fourth of July tug-o-war pulls, backyard baseball, travels north and south, the famous “shotgun” wedding announcements, Christmas Eve celebrations and Sunday’s with cousins. He was a life-long Packer fan. Family and friends were often entreated to “Get with the program!” The door to his home was always open as was his heart.

Above all he loved his family. Survived by his wife of 22 years, Jane (Linson) Roberts; his sisters, Mary Helen (Roberts) Strong, Mary Margaret (Al Blahnik) Roberts; brothers, Francis (Judie) Roberts, Ray (Kathy) Juetten and James Wahl; children, Theresa (Tom) Manzell, Mary (Dan) Lietha, Jean (Tim) Gales, Kenneth (Kristin Legreid) Roberts, John (Deanna Oswalt) Roberts, and Raelynn (Michael Roush) Roberts; step-son, Chad Charles; step-daughter, Amy (Peter) Krahn, 13 grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many who he cherished as family. He was preceded in death by his former wife and mother of his children, Anita (Wattam) Roberts, as well as many deeply loved and missed family members.

No services will take place at this time. A celebration of Ray’s life is being planned for the future. The family suggests remembering Ray with memorial contributions to the New Berlin Lions Club/Wisconsin Lion’s Camp, P.O. Box 510251, New Berlin, WI, 53151.
