Leone Marie Berger

CARNEY — Leone Marie Berger, 92 of Carney, passed away on Dec. 2, 2016, at home with her family by her side. Leone was born in Dickenson, N.D., on May 1, 1924, to Earl and Ruby Robinson. She was the last surviving sibling in the Robinson family made up of nine brothers and sisters. A three-year drought forced the family to leave North Dakota, settling in Naperville, Ill., in the early 1930s. Leone went to high school at Hylandale Academy in LaCrosse, Wis., where she met her husband Ralph Berger. Leone and Ralph were married on Dec. 22, 1943, in Hinsdale, Ill. They settled in Carney, Mich., along the Cedar River near Ralph’s family farm. They were married for 69 years before her husband passed away on Jan. 23, 2013. Leone was a homemaker, loving wife and mother to three boys, Gary, Timothy and Tom. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and being involved in her church and community. She loved the outdoors. In her younger years loved taking kids downhill skiing, making maple syrup with her family in the spring, and cutting brush with her husband in the fall. Leone loved animals and had many pets through the years. Leone had six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and loved spending time with each of them. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Leone is survived by her son Gary and his wife Beverly; granddaughter Dana Zinke and her husband Greg and their children Jacob and Makayla; daughter-in-law Chris, her husband Duane; grandson Todd and his children Nicholas and Nathan; grandson Chad and his wife Lorrell and their children Christopher and Jordon; son, Tom; daughter-in-law, Rene; grandson Justin and his children Hazel, Arcamedies and Lilianna; granddaughter Tiffany and her children Topanga and Trinity.

Leone is preceded in death by her husband Ralph, siblings Robert Robinson, Shirley Reh, Atha Lee Haidu, Charlotte Paul, Russell Robinson, Leon Robinson (her twin brother), Earl Robinson and Idonna LeCompte; son Timothy Berger, and her grandson Gregory Berger.

Leone’s family invites you to attend her memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Wilson Seventh Day Adventist Church. Visiting with family and friends and a slide show of Leone’s life will begin at 10 EST. Memorial service will begin at 11 EST followed by a fellowship meal.
