ESCANABA — ESCANABA — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced the moving of oversize loads from Escanaba to the Tilden Mine, which was set to begin tonight, has been delayed due to weather. This work will be rescheduled at a later date.. According to a press release from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the transportation of four large kiln components to the Tilden Mine is expected to temporarily block traffic when the operation is rescheduled.

The kiln components are currently being stored on Basic Marine property off of the 600 block of 1st Avenue North in Escanaba. They arrived here by ship last year.

Under a permit from MDOT, contractors will move the oversized kiln components from Escanaba to the Tilden Mine. These moves are planned to take place at night to lessen the impact on traffic. The loads will travel on U.S. 2 to M-35, then north on M-35 to M-553. The route will continue on Marquette County Road 480 before returning to M-35 and heading to the mine.

The area is expected to receive up to nine inches of snow Tuesday.
