Home destroyed by fire in Masonville Township

MASONVILLE TOWNSHIP — A house in Masonville Township was destroyed by a fire Saturday.

Around 11 a.m. Saturday morning, Masonville Township Fire Department responded to 8276 Garth Point Ln. on a report of flames coming from the roof of this structure. Upon arrival, the house was completely engulfed by fire.

According to Chief Zackery Christianson, the fire began in the home’s chimney. The fire separated from the chimney and engulfed the entire structure.

Firefighters left the scene at about 5:45 p.m. after using approximately 150,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. No one was injured on the scene.

The house — a log home — was a total loss. According to the department, the home was insured. No damage estimate was available as of Monday morning.

Masonville Township Fire Department was assisted by Masonville EMS, Ensign Township Fire Department, Nahma Township Fire Department, Brampton Township Fire Department, Escanaba Township Fire Department, Escanaba Public Safety, Delta County Central Dispatch, American Red Cross, Alger Delta Electric and DTE Energy.

Firefighters were also assisted by Jack’s Restaurant and Garth Bluff Grocery, which supplied food and drinks to the firefighters and EMS personnel on the scene.
