Escanaba River Bridge closed today
WELLS — Drivers traveling between Escanaba and Gladstone can expect delays today while work occurs on the U.S. 2 and 41 bridge over the Escanaba River.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., both lanes of U.S. 2 will be closed between Delta County Road 426 and Mead Road while the remainder of the new bridge deck is poured. This work is weather dependent.
During today’s closure, eastbound traffic will be detoured from U.S. 2 via County Roads 426, 420, and 531 and onto M-35 before returning to U.S. 2. This detour will be reversed for westbound traffic. Motorists are advised to be patient and expect delays.
County Road 420 will be closed to through traffic at the east leg of the intersection with County Road 531, and Rivers 22nd Road will be open to eastbound traffic only between County Road 531 and M-35. Law enforcement will be present at intersections throughout the detour route to improve traffic flow and reduce backups.
As parts of County Road 426 are closed to oversized loads, drivers with oversized loads should contact the Delta County Road Commission at 906-786-3200 to determine the most appropriate route.
