Local high water levels starting to recede

ESCANABA — Though water levels on rivers in Delta County are not quite as high as they were last week, Delta/Schoolcraft County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Berbohm said these levels are still higher than is typical for this time of year.

“They’re starting to normalize, if you will,” Berbohm said. These high levels were largely caused by heavy rain in the area earlier in October.

Berbohm said it is unusual for local water levels to be as high as they have been during the fall.

“We typically see this type of water (level) during the spring runoff,” he said.

Despite this, Berbohm noted he has not heard of any flood damage or flooding risks in the area as a result of these water levels.

“Nobody has reported anything to me,” he said, adding he had spoken with local road commissions about this situation.
