Man dies from injuries suffered in auto crash

ST. IGNACE — A man involved in a one-car accident Sept. 1 in the St. Ignace area has died due to his injuries Monday.

Michigan State Police troopers from the St. Ignace Post responded to a one-vehicle traffic crash on Sept. 1 at 3:29 a.m. in Mackinac County’s Clark Township. The crash occurred on Three Mile Road, north of Nye Road.

A Hyundai Accent with two occupants was traveling southbound on Three Mile Road when it left the roadway and drove onto the shoulder. The vehicle then returned to the roadway and overturned several times, ejecting a male occupant from the vehicle. The female occupant was able to escape the wreckage before the vehicle caught on fire.

Both occupants were transported to War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste Marie. The man was later transferred to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, where he died on Monday as a result of his injuries. The woman was later released from War Memorial Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
