Man killed in Escanaba house fire

ESCANABA — A house fire claimed the life of a man after he became trapped in the structure Tuesday night, according to Escanaba Public Safety officers.

The fire occurred at a two-story home located at 301 N. 12th St. Officers were called to the home at 10:21 p.m. after a fire was reported there. When officers arrived, they observed a fire in the upstairs of the home.

They were also told a man was trapped upstairs in the area where the fire was located.

Officers said they conducted an interior attack on the blaze and the fire was suppressed.

Officers searched the upstairs of the home and discovered the body of a man in his late 30s who died in the fire.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to officers.

Officers remained at the scene early this morning. The home showed little signs of exterior damage.
