Lincoln Road rampage case heads to circuit court

ESCANABA — A man who went on a three-block rampage in a pickup on North Lincoln Road was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court.

Peter Stephen Walls, 28, of 3818 21st Ave. SW, Seattle, was bound over on the following five counts: one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation (punishable by 10 years and/or $5,000), three counts of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon (punishable by four years and/or $2,000), and one count of assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a police officer (punishable by two years and/or $2,000). A $500,000 cash or surety bond was set for Walls.

Last month, Walls was arrested by Escanaba Public Safety after they received numerous calls about a pickup truck causing accidents on North Lincoln Road around 8:17 p.m.

According to officers, the incident began when the pickup drove through private property at a local business at the intersection of Lincoln Road and Ludington Street. The pickup struck a vehicle and fled the scene, heading northbound.

The pickup then struck another passenger vehicle on the 200 block of North Lincoln Road. The pickup continued to ram the driver’s side of the vehicle, pushing it northbound on North Lincoln Road. The pickup then swerved off the roadway, struck a sign, then continued northbound.

At this point, an Escanaba Public Safety officer saw the pickup crash into another vehicle that was stopped at a red light at the intersection. The officer and several bystanders who witnessed the crash were then able to restrain Walls.
