New manager hired for airport
ESCANABA — T.J Reid has been hired as the new Delta County Airport manager, pending a successful pre-employment physical, the Delta County Board of Commissioners announced Monday. Reid will replace Kelly Smith, who will be retiring as Delta County Airport manager in May.
Reid previously served as the deputy director of Cheyenne (Wyoming) Regional Airport, and as the airport manager of the Augusta (Kansas) Municipal Airport. He began his aviation career as an airport operations specialist for Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, Colo.
Reid spent the last two years outside the aviation field, as the compliance manager for a medical facility in California.
Reid holds a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Wyoming, and a master’s degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is currently licensed as a commercial pilot, a certified flight instructor, and has previously been certified as both an accredited firefighter and fire instructor.
Reid will begin on April 2, with current manager Kelly Smith training him until her retirement date.
The county board thanked Brian Herioux, Dee Dee Anderson, Will Carne, and Dennis Hopkins for their work on the interview committee that recommended hiring Reid.
