Five nabbed in Schoolcraft drug bust

MANISTIQUE — Four Manistique residents were arrested Thursday following a lengthy, multi-departmental investigation into the trafficking, sale, and illegal use of narcotics in Schoolcraft County. The investigation also led to the arrest of a fifth individual in November of last year.

Manistique Public Safety officers, in conjunction with Schoolcraft County Sheriff deputies and agents from the 93rd District Court of Schoolcraft County, served felony drug arrest warrants on four people living in Manistique Thursday evening. The arrests were the culmination of a six-month ongoing investigation by public safety and the sheriff’s department. It was also noted in a press release issued Friday that investigators were also assisted by the Michigan Department of Human Services with the removal and safekeeping of a child from the home of an arrested person.

Officers arrested Katy Marie McGinnis, 30, and she was charged two counts of controlled substance – delivery/manufacture, did deliver the controlled substance Suboxone, a seven-year felony and/or $10,000. McGinnis was charged as a habitual offender – second offense notice. She was lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail and bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.

Officers also arrested Shane David Henry, 43, and he was charged with one count of controlled substance – delivery/manufacture, did deliver the controlled substance Suboxone, seven-year felony and/or $10,000. Henry was also charged as a habitual offender – fourth offense notice. Henry was lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail and bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety.

Officers then arrested Daniel Joe Baker, 47. Baker was charged with one count of controlled substance – delivery/manufacture, did deliver less than 50 grams of a mixture containing the controlled substance Vicodin, a 20 year felony and/or $25,000. He was also charged with one count of controlled substance – delivery/manufacture, did deliver the controlled substance Suboxone, seven-year felony and/or $10,000. Baker was charged as a habitual offender – third offense notice. He was lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail and bond as set at $500,000 cash or surety.

Officers then effected the arrest of Dimitri Mishko, 27, and he was charged with one count of controlled substance – delivery/manufacture, did deliver the controlled substance Suboxone, seven-year felony and/or $10,000. Mishko was lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail and bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety.

During the course of the above investigations, officers also arrested Angie Jean Gwaltney, 26, for delivery of methamphetamine, a felony, on Nov. 11, 2017, after a buy/bust operation conducted by public safety and the sheriffs’ department in Manistique. Gwaltney remains lodged in the Schoolcraft County Jail and awaits further criminal proceedings in circuit court.

McGinnis, Henry, Baker, and Mishko were all arraigned before Judge Mark Luoma of the 93rd District Court of Schoolcraft County Friday. All four defendants were remanded back to the custody of the sheriff’s department and the next scheduled court date will be Feb. 28, for preliminary examination proceedings in the 93rd District Court.
