Effort on to improve Rapid River park

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Business Association (RRBA) is starting a new campaign to help raise funds for a patio area at Masonville Township Park in Rapid River. The campaign is one of the ways the association is trying to improve and attract more visitors to downtown Rapid River.

The association, which was started last year, is made up of various Rapid River businesses including Jack’s Restaurant, Rapid River Hardware, TKL Repair and Towing, Rapid River Lodge, and the Rapid River Dairy Flo. The association is not limited to just businesses; anyone who pays dues can become a member of the RRBA. The association meets every second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at either Jack’s or the Rapid River Pub.

According to Bobbi Ryan, an RRBA member, the association is now selling memorial bricks to help fund the project. A parking pad is currently under construction in Masonville Township Park that will eventually be accompanied by the brick patio made from the memorial bricks that are sold, explained Ryan.

Ryan said the patio will be a perfect asset to the park, as it will allow people a place to stop while traveling to enjoy what Rapid River has to offer, while also providing a scenic view of the Rapid River that flows through the park.

Bricks can be purchased in memory of loved ones, in honor of someone, or in the name of a business, explained Ryan.

During the Christmas in Rapid River event that took place last weekend, Ryan said she sold 21 bricks and handed out countless order forms to people interested in purchasing bricks.

In addition to the patio, which Ryan hopes the RRBA will be able to install next spring, the Masonville Township Park is also receiving new playground equipment next year only adding to the various improvements being made in the Rapid River community.

Any association member or other community members are welcome to help construct the patio, said Ryan.

On top of the brick campaign, the RRBA is also seeking other grant funding to help cover the cost of installation of the patio, added Ryan.

Those interested in purchasing a brick can go to Jack’s Restaurant, Rapid River Hardware Store, Pro Towing and Landscape, Hillcrest Motel in Rapid River, and Rapid River Knifeworks.
