Esky man pleads on heroin charges

ESCANABA — An Escanaba man pleaded guilty to two felonies involving heroin during a hearing in Delta County Circuit Court on Monday.

Fred Lee Willis, 35, pleaded guilty to and will be sentenced on Jan. 16 on one count of possession of less than 25 grams of heroin, a four-year felony, and one count of delivery of less than 50 grams of heroin, a 20-year felony.

Willis was arrested earlier this year as a third-offense habitual offender on one count of delivery/manufacture of less than 50 grams of heroin stemming from a Sept. 24, 2017 incident in Ford River Township.

In a separate incident, he was arrested as a third-offense habitual offender on one count of delivery/manufacture of less than 50 grams of heroin and one count of delivery/manufacture Buprenorphine, a seven-year felony, stemming from incidents on April 18 and Sept. 20 in Escanaba.

During a pretrial conference hearing on Monday, Willis pleaded guilty to possessing less than 25 grams of heroin in the first case and pleaded guilty to delivering less than 50 grams of heroin in the second court file.

In exchange for the above two guilty pleas, Prosecuting Attorney Philip Strom agreed to dismiss the remaining charges and the habitual offense notices.
