Body of woman found in Gogebic County
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — A Woodruff, Wis., woman was found dead in the Rainbow Falls area in Ironwood Township Wednesday, according to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office.
On Nov. 22, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to attempt to locate Candace Zahn Cain, 65, at about 7:26 a.m. Acting on information they received from Wisconsin authorities, they searched the areas of Copper Peak and Black River Harbor in Ironwood Township.
At about 8 a.m., Cain’s vehicle was found parked in the Black River Harbor parking lot. Once the vehicle was found, deputies on the scene requested additional personnel and the activation of Gogebic County Search and Rescue.
Shortly after 10 a.m., search teams found Cain in the nearby Rainbow Falls area. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and was transported to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital for further investigation. No foul play is suspected in Cain’s death.
The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Gogebic County Search and Rescue, Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department, the U.S. Forest Service, and Beacon Ambulance at the scene.
