‘Fur’ Raiser event to benefit Delta Animal Shelter

ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter will be hosting a fun evening of raffles, games, and auctions during its sixth annual “Fur” Raiser. All proceeds raised during the event will help benefit the shelter located in Escanaba.

The event will be held at the Island Resort and Casino on Thursday, Oct. 26, with doors opening at 5 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased at the shelter, located at 6975 Co. Rd 426 in Escanaba.

According to Tonya Gartland, adoption specialist, the “Fur” Raiser is the biggest fundraising event of the year for the shelter. This year’s theme will be “Super Heroes Unite.” Gartland noted that tickets tend to sell fast, so she recommends purchasing them sooner rather than later.

“Super Heroes” who will be present at the fundraiser will include local law enforcement, community members, and former Delta Animal Shelter dog, Peanut.

Peanut is credited with helping save the life of a three-year-old girl in Rapid River who was found unclothed in a ditch in March of 2016.

Over the course of the event, Gartland explained, there will be silent and live auctions, bucket raffles, presentations and a catered dinner provided by the Island Resort and Casino.

Some prizes include a year’s worth of services at Bay Veterinary Clinic in Escanaba, dog-related items such as a dog GoPro and iFetch. Additionally, there will be a mens and women’s table full of prizes, noted Gartland.

Games will include a “Super Hero Catapult” which will allow guests to toss a stuffed animal through a hole in a target to win prizes. Green Bay Packer game tickets will be up for grabs, said Gartland, in addition to a wood carved bench and other local crafts.

Overall, Gartland said she encourages everyone to come out and support the shelter while having a good time.

“This is really fun and it also is helping the animals at the shelter,” said Gartland.
