Escanaba River bridge closes tonight at 9 p.m.

ESCANABA — Motorists are reminded the U.S 2 & 41 bridge over the Escanaba River is scheduled to be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, to allow for the removal of the old railroad bridge.

During the closure period, eastbound traffic will be detoured from U.S. 2 via County Roads 426, 420 and 531 and onto M-35 before returning to U.S. 2. The detour route will be reversed for westbound traffic.

During the detour, County Road 420 will be closed to through traffic at the east leg of the intersection with County Road 531. Rivers 22nd Road will be closed between County Road 531 and M-35.

Though law enforcement will be present at intersections to improve traffic flow, drivers should anticipate some delays during the closure period.
