Boy hit by vehicle while waiting for school bus

ESCANABA — The Delta County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate an accident involving a 13-year-old boy who was injured Thursday morning after he was hit by vehicle while waiting for a school bus.

At approximately 7:25 a.m., deputies responded to an accident on 18th Road near K Lane involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.

The driver, an 18-year-old male, was eastbound on 18th Road, and after he crested a hill, struck another vehicle that was stopped waiting for a Hannahville school bus to load a student.

After hitting the stopped vehicle, the 18-year-old’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the right, hitting the 13-year-old boy waiting for the bus.

As a result of the accident, the 13-year-old was airlifted by Valley Med helicopter from the scene to UP Health Systems in Marquette.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Escanaba Public Safety, UP Health Systems and Valley Med.
