Rapid River man not guilty of child abuse
ESCANABA — A Rapid River man was found not guilty of child abuse following a two-day jury trial in Delta County Circuit Court last week.
Joseph Brian Thibault, 45, of Rapid River, was bound over from district court to circuit court in 2016 on one count of third-degree child abuse, a two-year felony. The charge stemmed from an alleged child abuse incident in Masonville Township on Jan. 24, 2016.
Following his arrest later that year, Thibault posted a $5,000 bond and was released from police custody. He was ordered to have no contact with children under the age of 17 years.
Following presentation of testimony and evidence in court Thursday and Friday, jurors deliberated for 12 minutes before reaching an unanimous verdict on Friday, declaring Thibault not guilty.
