Jury trial date set in sexual assault case
ESCANABA — An Escanaba man is scheduled to be tried by a jury in December on a criminal sexual conduct charge dating back to an incident in 2015, according to police and court records.
Eric Lee Halfaday, 32, of 317 S. 17th St., Escanaba, was arrested by Escanaba Public Safety on one count of criminal sexual conduct, second-degree, for allegedly sexually assaulting a victim under 13 years of age on Nov. 12, 2015, in Escanaba.
The felony carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison and lifetime electronic monitoring. Halfaday has a second-offense notice attached to the charge, which increases the maximum prison term to 22 and a half years upon conviction.
He remains lodged in Delta County Jail in lieu of a $150,000 cash bond. He was ordered to have no contact with children under the age of 13 years. He was also ordered to have no drugs or alcohol and ordered to not enter bars.
Halfaday was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court where he opted to be tried by a jury. A three-day trial is scheduled for Dec. 12-14.
Prior to the bindover, the defendant’s court records were suppressed in district court.
