Standoff ends with arrest in Ironwood Twp.
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP — A 47-year-old Ironwood Township man remains lodged in the Gogebic County Jail after a standoff with police Tuesday afternoon, according to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department.
When sheriff’s personnel responded to a neighbor dispute at around 2 p.m., the incident evolved into an altercation with law enforcement and the subject retreated into his home where he barricaded himself with weapons, stated Sheriff Pete Matonich in a news release.
After negotiations with the subject failed, officers entered the residence. The man was taken into custody then lodged in jail on charges related to the incident.
“The Gogebic County Prosecutor may be filing additional charges as the investigation continues,” stated Matonich in the news release.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police, Gogebic-Iron County Swat, and Beacon Ambulance.
