Man charged in assault

ESCANABA — A Gladstone man has been charged with two 10-year felonies in connection with an assault on another male in Escanaba Township earlier this year, according to police and court records.

Francis John Tourangeau, 30, of 4664 County 416 20th Road, Gladstone, was arrested in April and charged with one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and one count of assault by strangulation stemming from a March 19, 2017 incident.

Each charge carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Following his arraignment on April 28 and a probable cause hearing on May 4 in district court, Tourangeau posted a $25,000 surety bond and was released from police custody.

He was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court where he will be scheduled for a hearing to set a date for a plea or a trial.

Tourangeau was ordered by the court to have no contact with the victim who was injured during the incident and sought his own treatment, according to Michigan State Police, the investigating agency.

Tourangeau was also ordered to have no contact with a female, according to court records.
